Broadcom, Inc. – new direction for VMware

In November 2023, Broadcom completed the acquisition of VMware. As the new owner, Broadcom introduced significant changes to the VMware product portfolio. The offerings were restructured into solution bundles tailored to specific business needs, and the pricing model was simplified.

Popular VMware products such as vSphere Standard and Enterprise Plus are no longer available as standalone options and can now only be purchased within product bundles that include vCenter. Individual VMware products have been removed from the pricing list entirely. Additionally, some solutions have been permanently discontinued — including VMware Desktop Hypervisor (Workstation and Fusion), VMware vSphere Essentials, and VMware vSphere Essentials Plus.

A strategic response to the evolving IT market

Responding to the expectations of the IT market, VMware by Broadcom is exclusively focused on medium and large installations – private clouds, hybrid, and multi-cloud solutions. The current owner is developing its products within dedicated Broadcom divisions:

• Software-Defined Edge (SDE)

• VVE and VVS remain in VMware's offerings to ensure continued and comfortable work for existing customers using basic VMware products. Specifically, VVE includes vSphere Enterprise Plus and vCenter Standard, and VVS includes vSphere Standard and vCenter Standard.
