Poland’s First Free MMS Gateway

dcs.pl has developed, launched, and maintained the MMS from the Internet service for Orange—the first online MMS gateway in Poland. This service allows all internet users to send MMS messages for free via a web browser. It was introduced as an extension of the SMS from the Internet gateway, which processes over 50 million SMS messages per month.

MMS from the Internet – mms.orange.pl is the first service of its kind in Poland, enabling free MMS sending from the web. The service was designed with ease of use in mind, requiring no login. Anyone with internet access can quickly create an MMS message and send it to Orange network numbers registered in the existing SMS from the Internet service.

Users can create MMS messages using photos and illustrations from themed galleries on mms.orange.pl or upload their own images from their computer. The images are automatically scaled for optimal display on mobile phone screens. Messages can also include user-entered text or pre-designed templates from the service’s library. Each MMS can contain up to 2,000 characters.

Orange's goal in offering a free MMS gateway is to promote MMS usage among its subscribers. While operators initially saw MMS as a revenue booster, adoption has been limited due to the complex phone setup process. To address this, every MMS sender is informed about the “Set Up Your Phone” service (ustaw.orange.pl), which allows users to configure their phone—or another person's phone—for MMS automatically. Additionally, Orange will use the service for marketing purposes, with the option to attach a multimedia advertising slide (image, video, audio, or text) to each MMS sent through the gateway.

From a technical perspective, the MMS from the Internet gateway is designed to ensure proper message display across most MMS-enabled mobile phones. Images are resized and converted into the most storage-efficient formats, with a maximum MMS size of 100 KB to ensure compatibility with older phone models.

MMS from the Internet is another value-added service (VAS) developed, maintained, and enhanced by dcs.pl for Orange. It complements the SMS from the Internet gateway, which delivers over 50 million SMS messages per month. The service is also integrated with the "Set Up Your Phone" platform. All these services proudly carry the "powered by dcs.pl" signature.
